Modern Mending: Introduction to Hand Sewing
November 10 @ 1:00 pm - 4:30 pm
Revive your wardrobe, while creating functional art and building foundational sewing skills. This workshop invites you to personalize your clothing and make it last longer. Students will receive a unique textile bundle to use and take home to further develop their skills.
You will learn basic hand sewing, stitching, and techniques. Methods for direct visible mending as well as layering with patches will be explored, as well as Japanese sashiko & boro style repair.
Students are encouraged to bring a garment in need of mending, as well as beloved scraps and adornments to include in the mending process. We suggest a denim or other lightweight jacket, loose fitting jeans, or weathered bag in natural fibers. Please ensure whichever piece you bring is not stretchy.
