Foraging Natural Color: Beeswax Crayons with Nathan Harper

November 9, 2018 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Students will learn how to harvest professional, artist-grade pigment from natural resources that can easily be found in their own back yard! In this class, we will be focusing on creating beeswax based crayons. We will break up rocks and minerals and prepare them to be made into crayons. Student may bring rocks or any pigment (as long as it is in a dry format) and we can experiment with making crayons out of it!

Materials supplied by student:

A mortar and pestle set (can be found at target for around $11) glass jars with lids, a pair of safety glasses, a rag, safety mask and a wire sifter. Optional: Rocks (sedimentary works best) and a hot plate if you don’t want to have to share.

This workshop will take place in our Lowe Mill A&E North Floor Classroom from 6-8pm on Friday, November 9th.
