Folk School Workshops – January

 Fiber Arts: “Needle Felted Creatures”
Leather Working: “Luggage Tags”
Level of Classes:                                                                                                                                                                   Beginner/Novice: Individuals with no experience at all.                                                                                                                                  Adv. Beginner: Individuals with limited experience.                                                                                                                         Intermediate: Individuals who have mastered basic skills.                                                                                                                 Advanced: Individuals who are very comfortable with subject matter
Important Information:                                                                                                                                                             Registering for a workshop indicates that the student is 19 years of age or older and understands that photographs/video may be taken during the event and their image may be used on Burritt on the Mountain’s website and social media outlets or other promotional materials. Registration also indicates that the student releases Burritt on the Mountain and the City of Huntsville, all their directors, employees, volunteers, and any persons associated with Burritt on the Mountain, from any liability for any bodily injury and/or property damage suffered by the attendee as a result of actives during the educational program.
Cancelation Policy: Students that cancel 7 days prior to the date of the class will be eligible for a full refund. If student cancels 6 days or less prior to the date of the class no refund will be issued.
Workshop: Leather Working: “Luggage Tags”
Description: This workshop introduces students to the art of leather working. Students will learn about various tools and supplies, safety, and the skills of cutting, punching, beveling, grooving/ layout, stitching, and, if time allows, stamping. By the end of the class you will have a beautiful luggage tag to take home. If time permits, students may also make a business card holder.
Instructor: Kevin Yarbrough is a software engineer with a local aerospace company with a passion for traditional trades: tooling and process. Kevin has been a volunteer at Burritt Museum demonstrating blacksmithing and leather working. His goals are to make useful, aesthetically pleasing items while learning and sharing in a collaborative environment.
Supplies and Attire:  All materials and supplies will be provided. Please wear comfortable clothes that it will not concern you if they get dirty. Students should have a basic aptitude for sewing and desire to learn.
Time: Saturday, January 19 (9:00am-12:00pm)
Tuition: $40.00
Supply Fee: $10.00
Level: Beginner/Novice

Workshop: Fiber Arts: “Needle Felted Creatures”
Description: Students will learn the basics of needle felting and will use several different sewing stitches to create fun and adorable creatures. Students must be 13+. Students 15 and under must have a parent or legal guardian attending as a registered student.
Instructor: Sara Boothman Glines is a Traditional Artist carrying forward what has been handed down as a beautiful and culturally significant into our contemporary lives and communities. She enjoys creating, crafting, ad bringing to life these traditions through carving, basket making, sewing, felting, and whatever nature has to offer. For eight generations, her family roots have been in the White Mountains of Northern New Hampshire. She and her husband enjoy spending winters in Northern Alabama for the past nine years.
Supplies and Attire:  All materials and supplies will be provided.
